What does (and bodies and souls of men) in Revelations 18:13 refers to?

The notes in my Bible say that it refers to slave trade. it was common for most people to have slaves in that era. Using this phrase was something that they would understand as a bad economy.
I wonder if when John saw that revelation if it could mean common labors in today’s time. John was only able to use definitions that he was familiar with. Of course my thoughts are just that “thoughts” and in no way are they a translation

Understand that babylon in this case refers to the great whore, actually an anti-christ religious institution which deceives the souls of men as to the truth. The king james bible does not use the word bodies but indeed uses the word slaves, which is the correct word to use and can be seen as a practice of the great whore, keeping men in captivity with false doctrine and instrumental in turning souls into hell. The apostle Peter identified the great whore/babylon as Rome.
